Is there truly any such thing as completely free ringtones? No, in reality this is usually a scam, where the free slogan hooks in unsuspecting people to download some ringtones to their phone believing they are free and then a month later they get charges on their cell phone bills.

This happens time and again and either people do not read the very fine print that often comes with these scams, for which you need a magnifying glass to read it, before entering their cell phone number, or the scam that is providing these so called free ringtones actually does not display the terms and conditions.

Many have been suckered into the free ringtone scam and had to pay undisclosed fees in the end. This is the reason that many cell phone companies, have become very touchy about how ringtones are advertised on any sites in relation to their brands. In reality, while we all want to get a freebie, and this is especially true for music, with the coming of sites like Limewire and Bearshare, we can also see what a disaster that has been. With one woman who just lost at trial and now has to repay $200,000 dollars to the plaintiffs for downloading copyright music from “free” music download sites. And, don’t think for a moment that this will not happen with ringtones as well, since the music used for them is copyrighted just like the MP3′s that are downloaded to any computer.

It is a much better option to not risk getting surprise bills on your cell phone, or any copyright violations and instead opt for an honest approach to ringtones and avoid the scams and know exactly what charges will be due and what you will get for the price you pay.
